Types Of Catering Events

The key to hosting a successful event is catering to your guests' needs by providing them with both great food and great service. This, however, can be easier said than done.
In order to keep your guests happy, it is important to know the different types of catering options offered, including onsite, offsite and self-serve. Once you recognize the various services included with each option, you will be able to enjoy the event alongside your friends and family.

Onsite

From weddings to birthday parties, onsite catering is the perfect option if you want to sit back and relax while others serve your guests and clean the mess afterward. Designed to reduce the host’s stress, this type of catering refers to food both prepared and served in the same location as the event itself. Most major hotels, restaurants, banquet halls and private clubs offer onsite caterers for special events. Services may include, but are not limited to, staff members delivering food to the site, serving food, assisting guests through the buffet lines and cleaning up serving areas.

Offsite

If you prefer to host your event at an area that does not include its own catering facilities, such as private homes or estates, gardens and museums, then offsite catering is your most suitable option. With this service, you are given the option to choose the caterer best suited to both your needs and budget. You also are provided with a variety of menu options to better help you determine the most suitable price per person. Most offsite caterers provide their own serving ware, such as cups, napkins, eating utensils and plates. Also, many offsite catering services provide a buffet-style menu, allowing guests to serve themselves after everything is prepared.

Other Catering Services

Whether you choose onsite or offsite catering, there are several other important services to consider besides the menu:

• Entertainment
• Rental equipment (mainly used for offsite catering services)
• Site arrangements
• Appearance of serving platters and buffet table
• Decorations (flowers, centerpieces, candles, etc.)

Which option should you choose?

Although each of these options offer a variety of beneficial services, it is important to consider the needs of your guests, as well as your budget. Other factors influencing your choice between onsite and offsite catering include the number of guests attending, the type of event you are hosting, the event location and menu options.

To help make your choice easier, you may want to consider adding up the various rental costs involved in offsite catering, such as tables, chairs, tableware and the site itself. Adding these costs to the price of food for the occasion will help determine which type of catering best fits your budget.
