Everyone has tried their hand at gourmet cooking to impress a friend or loved one. Most people don't understand how difficult gourmet cooking can be. After all, it is far different from popping a frozen meal into the microwave. Gourmet cooking takes time, patience, and preparation.
While most cooks only dabble in gourmet cooking, others take their skills to another level.
Some cooks try their luck with a catering business. In fact, most businesses arise from combining a love of gourmet cooking with catering services.
Before beginning a gourmet cooking catering business, many things are needed. First, a license is required. To obtain a license one must apply to the local health department. Once that is done, a health inspector will come and inspect the business, making sure it is up to code. Second, a location is required. There must be a separate sink to wash hands and the cooking facility cannot be attached to the kitchen. This is to prevent spread of possible food born diseases. Also, if any kind of remodeling is expected a plan must be issued to the health department. Aside from that, decide what kind of food is going to be served. It's best if the food caters to the demographic that lives near the business.
Once the proper licenses are acquired and regulations have been followed the next step is to decide on gourmet recipes. Recipes that call for more expensive and rare ingredients tend to be classified as gourmet. It also takes more time and preparation to cook gourmet recipes. Presentation and artistic flare are also characteristic of gourmet cooking. Some well known gourmet recipes include almond butter chicken with orange sauce, Caribbean jerk pork chops, baked salmon fillet, turnip rose garnish, stuffed French bread, and chicken marsala.
Chefs looking to break into a catering business venture will need gourmet cooking utensils and gourmet cooking supplies to make their venture a success. The difference between gourmet and regular cooking utensils is the quality of materials used and the design. Gourmet cooking utensils are usually made of high quality and durable materials. Most gourmet chefs require a good set of knives, pans, silverware, and glasses.
Cooking gourmet food also requires specific supplies and ingredients. Most caterers keep ingredients on hand that are common to the food they're serving. Aside from that, many caterers keep fresh ingredients in stock that are used frequently in many types of dishes. Some of the most common ingredients for gourmet dishes include vegetables, milk, butter, vegetable oils, and a range of different spices. Another handy tip is to keep serving trays, toothpicks, and back up silverware on hand.
Whether gourmet cooking is a once in a lifetime event or a lifetime career, supplies and utensils are necessary to get the job done. No matter what, make sure the gourmet cooking supplies are of good quality. Once, the supplies are purchased put them to good use and live out a dream!
